My daughter’s pet dwarf hamster is only ten centimetres long. She has time every evening in a large playpen that must be like a football stadium to her. But all her toys don’t compensate for being enclosed.

scales her playpen Ninja-like
trying to escape

this little creature
poignantly reminds me that
freedom is her right

now I understand
that metaphor for boredom -
endless hamster wheel
